Weekend at the Gold Coast

There’s nothing better than being able to pack up and head for the beach for the weekend.
Even better if the weather is fantastic.
I spent last weekend at Queensland’s Gold Coast, and it rained for most of the time.
But, the sun came out at the end of the weekend - just in time to get some nice photos.
Here I am standing at the end of the “Gold Coast”, more elegantly known as “The Spit”. It’s down past Seaworld Theme Park and Resort, and is absolutely gorgeous.
I’ve lived within an hour of this place for most of my life and incredibly, I have never been here.
I love to explore, so have no idea how I’d managed to miss this place for so many years. All I can say is that I’ll be coming back here - especially in the afternoon, when the light falls perfectly on to the rocks, giving them a warm glow.
Having somewhat tumultuous weather can be a good thing (it adds character) - especially when the sun comes out to counteract the gloominess. Here is what the condensed klump of highrises looks like from a distance:

The old jetty I was on is a little rundown, but makes a great photo subject. At the end is a small beacon - to make sure no vessel crashes into the jetty:

The ocean creates a whole range of adrenaline sports choices. Beside the jetty I was on is a small passage. Generally, any kind of activity in a body of water like this is cause of adrenaline, especially when certain finned animals are so fond of it.
Then there’s the motorised kind - definitely my preference. I’m not sure what this sport is called, but they looked like wave riders - jet skiers riding up the waves and getting some decent height. Here is a wave crashing against the rocks - it’s a great sight:

It was such a great weekend. Inevitably, reality returns, and it’s back to the daily world - until next time…

What a delightful article.
The Spit sounds a gorgeous place.
You can really see the mood of the weather when everything is so surrounded by the sea.
Great work,
Gloria
I grew up not far from the Spit. Your photos brought back some great memories. I had forgotten how beautiful it can be.
Great photos.
