Sydney for Easter
Over the recent Easter break, I went down to Sydney for a fun-filled weekend of exploration. Not sure how fun it ended up being, as I threw my back out the day before I flew down. Still, I wasn’t going to let that stop me from sightseeing, so it was painkillers all the way - retrospect, not the best idea, but…
My hotel was pretty close to Circular Quay, so I mainly spent time around there, just sitting and taking photos. There were a few side trips - by bus to Watson’s Bay, then back to Circular Quay by ferry - by ferry to Darling Harbour.
Here is the classic sunset shot of the Opera House. I actually find this structure more interesting at dusk, than during the day. When you walk around the base and look closely, you can see how old the building is, and how in need it is of a good clean. Still, it’s an awesome structure when it’s lit up:

There’s a particular area I like to sit, when I go to Circular Quay. It’s actually a rounded bench, which faces the open mouth of the harbour, with the Quay behind you. It’s a great vantage point. With a photo of the Opera House, you can’t miss the Harbour Bridge:

Sitting watching all those ferries coming and going is agony (even worse than my sore back), so I had to take one somewhere - to Darling Harbour. The seats aren’t the most comfortable, but the fresh air, and lively atmosphere is enough to make it worthwhile. Darling Harbour is home to the National Maritime Museum, which is actually pretty interesting (I went through a few years ago). I love old wooden ships, and here is a great one - it sometimes, goes out for special occasions, but is permanently moored at Darling Harbour:

So, even though I didn’t get to go for long walks (which I love to do), or take the train up to the Blue Mountains, it was still a good weekend, in a great Australian city.
