Royal Pines Treatment at the Gold Coast

OK, I’m a ‘little’ excited.  I just got the Canon 5D, and I LOVE IT!

I picked up my new toy over the weekend and set about photographing a weekend down the beautiful Gold Coast.  I stayed at the Royal Pines Resort and it was wonderful.  I experimented with the settings see how they worked and every time the camera made my photos look better!  Here is the hotel room:

One of the things I wanted to test out was how the camera handled natural light photography - especially as it doesn’t have an on-camera flash.  Here is a photo that I took at late dusk, so the light was extremely low.  Admittedly I have lightened the image a little in Photoshop, but the ambient light was pretty close to this:

This camera is such a joy to handle.  It can get a little heavy when you’ve been holding it for a while, but the quality for digital photography is incredible.  Especially considering I’ve upgraded from the Canon 350D.

Finally, I had to take this photo.  Yes, I would have looked like a snap-happy tourist, but I appreciate fine machinery, and this Ferrari certainly is that!  It was parked out the front of the hotel on the Saturday night (a guest’s car that the valet decided to put right at the front entrance…):

Now I have so much time to explore my new 5D and see what it can really do!
