Restaurant With a View
Happy New Year! Enjoy a fun, and safe New Year’s Eve.
Speaking of celebrating - what better way than to enjoy a fine meal at a restaurant with a 5 star view! This is RPRs - the rooftop restaurant at Royal Pines Resort at the Gold Coast.
It is a rare find to get a restaurant like this these days. It is extremely popular and books out weeks in advance. It’s also a favourite location for anniversaries, as I discovered. The day I photographed the restaurant, they were expecting a 50th anniversary couple - you’ll see the table arrangements the restaurant organised soon.
Trying to get both the inside and outside lighting exposed correctly was a little bit of a challenge, as the 5D doesn’t have a built in flash and my Canon 580EX Speedlite can be a little strong sometimes. Above it worked pretty well though. You can see the tables, and get a good idea of the view. Speaking of…
It was a pretty bright day, but the polarising filter helped control that. It’s such a great location - there aren’t hundreds of high rise buildings blocking the view - you can see as far as your eyes will allow.
Here is a demonstration of how ’strong’ the fill flash from the 580EX Speedlite can be. Still, it gives the image an almost surreal quality - which kind of enhances the ‘romantic’ feel…
