I recently went to a Food Show, and part of the event included a culinary competition specific to cakes. It’s amazing what creations there were. There was a wedding cake section, as well as other artistic cakes. I’d never want to eat them!

There are some very artistic people in this world. All these cakes were created by students as well. Creating them as sculptures is one thing, but the fact that they are all edible as well!

The room had pretty poor lighting, and I didn’t have a tripod with me, so unfortunately I had to use flash, which kind of washes the colours out, and creates a “hot spot”, especially in the sugar cake above.

This Japanese design cake above is my favourite. The colours are gorgeous and it’s so symmetric. Because all the cakes were placed on a long table, with ruffley table cloths, I had to remove the background in Photoshop. The Magnetic Lasso Tool is the easiest to start with, then filling in the background.

Now, although particularly pretty in terms of colour, this cake is incredible, and would be delicious, being chocolate! There is so much detail! This is where using flash is good, as the light really shows off all the crevices, so you can really see everything.

And for the last one - these look like real flowers. Just amazing the art that is out there.
