Storms

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Living in Queensland Australia, storms are pretty much a given at the end of summer.  At the moment though, a family of storms are living in my home town of Brisbane.  This is only the beginning of summer, so hopefully this isn’t a sign of the season to come.

Food Photography

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Photographing your dinner may seem like a strange activity for a Saturday night, but I loved the colours and textures in a new recipe I tested out!

Finding Photographic Inspiration

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

The daily grind can be just that - a grind. There isn’t always something interesting to photograph, and running around on the weekend getting things done that you just didn’t get time for during the week, doesn’t leave much time for anything else.

So, this weekend, instead of trying to find something to photograph, I looked back on some snaps from previous trips that brought back nice memories…

Stormy Sky Photographs

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Some amazing things happen in the blink of an eye. One afternoon I look out my window and it’s a normal sunny afternoon, and about 15 minutes later it looks like this…

Photographs of Amazing Cakes

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

I recently went to a Food Show, and part of the event included a culinary competition specific to cakes. It’s amazing what creations there were. There was a wedding cake section, as well as other artistic cakes. I’d never want to eat them!

Possum Caught Red Handed!

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

If you’ve ever been to Australia, you’ll undoubtedly be familiar with the “friendly” neighbourhood possum. These rodents are kind of cute, but are well known suburban pests - they take up residence in your roof, making a racket at night, and have extremely sharp claws that can easily cause damage.

Old Building Transformed

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Photograph Old Building TheatreThere are some buildings that just ooze history and character. Brisbane’s Powerhouse is one of those buildings, for me.

Situated very close to the CBD, this structure remained unused for 30 years, until it was converted into an Arts Centre in 2000.

This building is now heritage listed and has been home to art displays, contemporary dance, theatre, music, and also has a bar, restaurant, and conference facilities.

Photographing Rainbows

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Rainbows, no matter how many times I see then, I still get excited. They are a beauty of nature, especially after a ” little” bit of photoshop has been applied to them…

Cat on a Hot Tin…Desk???

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Some things you just don’t expect to happen on a normal work day. A meteor shower, or an eclipse, or a fairy dancing across your desk… Although not in the same league as these, having a stray cat fall asleep on your desk at work is not something that you see everyday.

This is exactly what happened to me a few days ago at work.

Neighbourhood Fireworks Photos

Published by Alpha Murgev under General

Staying home on a Saturday night can sometimes be a good thing - especially when an impromptu fireworks display begins!

I had a great vantage point from my balcony, and as soon as I saw them, I raced back inside, grabbed my camera, telephoto lens, tripod, and shutter release cable (all within easy reach, thankfully), and started taking photos.
